A Proof of Concept for an AI assistant that provides information stored in specific databases
The challenge
Esclerosis Múltiple España (EME) is a patient association for people living with Multiple Schlerosis. They have an open data portal, EMData, where they show important data related to the quality of life of people living with this condition, such as clinical trials, employment rates, or mental health.
They wanted to incorporate AI tools in this portal to improve user experience and add new functionalities. Our team proposed a proof of concept for implementing a virtual assistant for making queries about the information available in EMData.
- Industry: Healthcare (patient movement)
- Solution type: AI assistant
- Tech stack: Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps and Power Automate).
What we did
We designed the virtual assistant to make searching for information on EMData fast, easy, and intuitive. EMData brings together data from ten different databases, so when a user asks a question, the assistant automatically looks through all of them to gather the most relevant information.
Here’s how the assistant works from a user’s perspective:
- It checks the user's question to make sure it matches the type of information available.
- It quickly finds the right data and organizes it for a clear answer.
- The assistant chooses the best way to display information, such as charts or graphs, so users can easily understand the results.
- Finally, it presents a well-formatted answer, making complex information simple and accessible.
One of the key strengths of this tool is its ability to provide honest responses: if a question can't be answered with the current data, the assistant lets the user know right away, saving time and frustration. This ensures users always get accurate and up-to-date information, making EMData more helpful and reliable for everyone.
What we achieved
With the help of the virtual assistant, users could receive quick and precise answers based on all the data, whereas without it, they would have to search in different databases.
This proof of concept shows the potential of a tool like this one to streamline the experience, giving users fast and accessible information. Such functionality is extremely important for the patient's movement, since it makes crucial information much easier to access and comprehend.
The tool, if implemented, would:
- Empower users with immediate access to comprehensive, up-to-date information, eliminating the need for manual searches.
- Deliver accurate, context-aware responses, ensuring users only receive relevant data.
- Improve accessibility and understanding for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.
"The proof of concept of the AI-powered virtual assistant at EMData has shown great potential for quickly finding relevant information for people with Multiple Schlerosis. At this early stage, thanks to the work of the zenital team, the assistant delivers accurate and fast responses within a clearly defined time frame, using up-to-date data presented in a clear and precise way"

How to change an entire data strategy
I imagine 8wires as that sincere and honest partner that takes you out of all that noise and helps you focus on what is important, no matter how unsexy it may be, to achieve a great long-term goal.
The one who accompanies you through the hard times and helps you through the tough decisions, knowing that there is no easy road. The one who gives you the push or the tools so that you climb and be yourself the one who reaches the summits you propose in a healthy, sustainable and energetic way. And above all, the one who steps aside when he knows that he is not helping you or that he will not be able to give you what you need.
I don't know if it is helpful, but somehow I saw on the web a visual explanation of the problem in the data/technology world (I don't know if with this metaphor) before showing how it is to work with us and finally, another visual explanation of the result.

Like a bridge over troubled waters
